Success in racing horses lies in the ability of your trainer. In the first place, the trainer needs the special skill to be able to select potential winners from the myriad of unraced yearlings that are offered every year. Then he has to have the ability to educate and condition the equine athlete to be capable of competing at the peak of the horse's natural ability.

Understanding this, there is no one better than Neville Parnham. Neville is the current WA Champion trainer. He has won 12 training premierships, including the last 11 in a row.

Neville was born into racing with his Father and Uncle being successful trainers. Neville started out as a jockey but weight forced him to hang up the boots and join the training ranks. We guess you could say he has been doing his training apprenticeship since he could walk. When we went looking for our lead trainer we went no further than looking at top of the Ladder. You don't win eight training premierships without having that special touch.

What we like about Neville is his ability to consistently get winners from his babies through to older horses. Neville places his horses to earn prize money. Neville's training facilities are first class. He has stables in the heart of Ascot as well as a rural complex in Banjup allowing him to place a horse in the most suitable environment for that that particular horse.

In our quest to race horses capable of being successful in metropolitan racing, we believe the Neville Parnham factor improves our odds of success.

Adam Durrant

adamdurrant
Adam Durrant is without doubt the most promising young trainer in Western Australia. Some would say forget the most promising claim as he is already there. A quick look at the leading trainers' premiership, it would be hard to argue. Considering Adam is still in his twenties he has a big future in front of him.

When interviewed by Barry Farmer for Racing Ahead, Adam said "I have only one goal: to train as many winners as possible. I'm very keen. I get out of bed and want to get on with the job."

Adam has learned his trade from three very astute trainers – his Father Geoff, North West horseman Peter Daly and leading trainer Lindsay Smith.

Adam works his horses from his property in Karnup. His horses do not see a racetrack unless they are trialing or racing. Adam has access to two sands tracks, a 3000 metre fast work track and a 1000 metre job track. Adam also uses the beach as part of his training regime. Adam rides work every morning allowing him to assess each horse personally.

His track record to date is simply outstanding. As one experienced judge said, "If a Durrant horse hits the front it is very hard to run them down"

Trevor Andrews

Whenever someone is asked to name the top trainers in Western Australia, Trevor Andrews is always high in the list. It is interesting to note that when you scan through the records what stands out is the fact that Trevor wins the big races.

Trevor learnt his craft by working for Bert Harrison as a young lad when Bert had the top gallopers Asian Beau and Fait Accompli. Trevor also spent time working for the legendary Tommy Smith.Trevor spent three years training in Singapore where he trained over 60 winners.

Trevor has won races at the highest level including the at Group 1 level on the national stage.

Lindsey Smith

lindsyLindsay Smith would have to be one of the most interesting trainers in the business Some people say he is an outstanding talent, others cannot work his training methods out.

But one thing you can say about him is that his record shows he can train horses at the highest level. He is a Group 1 winning trainer on the national stage and can be described as being vey unorthodox in his approach and race scheduling.

It is not uncommon for Lindsay to start a horse first up over ground and get the chocolates or alternatively he can drop a stayer back to sprint distance in the same campaign and win.

Fred Kersley

fred

Fred Kersley is simply known as "the master horseman". As journalist Danny Power writes "Although thoroughbred racing and harness racing both involve horses, rarely has a trainer become a household name in each industry.

West Australian horseman Fred Kersley is an exception. After rising to be one of the all-time great Australian harness racing trainer-drivers, Kersley turned his hand to training thoroughbreds and produced a champion in dual Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup winner Northerly."

Fred's stellar performance as thoroughbred trainer since switching codes has no equal in Australia.

Darren Mc Auliffe

darren-mcauliffe-003 Darren Mc Auliffe is one of the young guns of Western Australia's training ranks. He was sling shot into prominence by the deeds of game racehorse Impressive Stats, a four time stakes winner.

Darren is a third generation horse trainer from the great southern region. His grandfather trained for 50 years and Darren's father trained for 30 years. Apart from learning the trade from his family, Darren also worked for 8 time Championship trainer Lou Luciani.

Since forming Impressive Racing with his business partner Kevin Berry, the stable has build a reputation of being able to train black type winners. Their winners to runners record stands at an impressive 62% with 80% of their gallopers being placed.

Simon Miller
simon millerWithout doubt, you would be hard-pressed trecall a trainer that has had such an impact in such a short time since joining the WA training ranks. Simon learnt his trade from several of the best in the business. As a teenager he worked for Charlie Goggin. He then went on to leading Cranbourne trainer Robbie Griffiths where he spent six years honing his craft.

Simon was then offered the assistant trainer position with one of Australia's top trainers John O'Shea. From there he was given the opportunity to train in his own right in Perth for Aquanita Racing. Before moving to Perth, he spent six months under the guidance of Aquanita trainers Tony Vasil and Robert Smerdon.
