It has taken six years for young trainer Damian Winn to break through for a Saturday win in the metropolitan area but Retro Rocket (Jarrad Noske) did it in emphatic fashion in the sixth race over 1200m at Belmont yesterday.
Hey Bro and Chilly Reception filled the places but they were no match for the big chestnut’s finishing run.

Winn, a breaker and preparer of young horses, as well as a trainer, has had mid-week and provincial success but prime time wins had previously eluded him. Part -owner David Ott of Donnybrook has sent horses to Winn after he had broken other horses in for him. Winn deflected the praise to his jockey.”Jarrad has ridden track work on this horse for two years ,loves him and rode a beautiful race in keeping him out of trouble.

Winn said the big raw boned four year had unfortunately gone shin sore on three occasions. “This was only his third start and after his last start win by over six lengths at Northam and I expected him to win again.” Winn was almost ready to give racing away after the death of King Casanova after winning at his only race start in July 2013.

“He was by the same sire as Retro Rocket (Written Tycoon). ”
