Lucy, The Punter  And Moi

Last Saturday, December 13, I walking and talking (yes I can do both unlike  former US president, Gerald Ford) from the mounting yard to the jockeys room.

My companion at the time was the the delightful and talented Lucy Warwick.

I was talking to the top apprentice about her win on Wink And A Nod for her equally talented father, trainer Justin Warwick-also a champion sire!

Wink And A Nod won a spirited duel with Clinking by a short neck. The win followed  Lucy’s career best four wins on the card at Ascot on December 10.

As we halfway up the hill a punter on the fence said “Hullo sweetheart.”

I was touched, it has been a while since I have received a comment like that at the races ……or anywhere else for that matter!

However, I am seldom lost for a word so just let me say this: On behalf of all racing writers it is very gratifying to have our work recognised by the people we serve.

The racing public can be assured that I, and the other lesser racing writers, will continue to serve them all our days while continuing to always look cute.
